PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER, VOL. 1 No. 2 15th September 2006

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Activities began this week and everyone has now been put into their clubs. Scouts was over-subscribed but two teachers are now involved so the numbers were increased. However, this activity is for older children only and is absolutely closed to any more.

Fixtures begin next week with the girls' U10 rounders team playing Aga Khan on Monday and the U11 team playing a friendly match against Mombasa Academy on Tuesday. The boys' U11 cricket team will be playing Aga Khan, also on Tuesday. All these matches are at home so, please, come along and support them.

I am trying to get the school registered as an ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) examination centre. In order to do this we will need a minimum of 12 examination candidates. If your child is a candidate for June 2007, I will need to know the grade to be taken and instrument. Parents and outsiders can also be candidates if they wish to be entered by BMIS and sit the examinations here. I will need all this information by half
term (13th October 2006). At this stage I am not in a position to make any promises. It will depend on the numbers I receive.

On Wednesday we held House meetings and the following Primary School House Captains were elected: Antonia Leckie and Jesse Dyer (Chui), Kristy McGovern and Kyle Spencer (Simba), Alex Onyango and Sonia Soares (Kifaru). Congratulations to them all. This term we hold the inter-house athletics, swimming gala and art competition, so the House Captains will be kept busy.

Students of the Week were chosen this week but their names will be published in next week's newsletter.

CASA is holding the Swimming Coast Age Group Championships on Friday. We will not be involved as it is too early in the term for Mr. Farid to train up his team. The first gala we will be entering this term is the National Age Group Short Course on Saturday 7th October in Mombasa. The children involved will get letters from Mr. Farid next week.

There are two changes to the calendar which you may wish to take note of. The PTA AGM/Social has been moved to Wednesday 29th November and Sports Day will be held on Thursday 7th December.

Have a good weekend,

SECONDARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER, VOL. 1 No. 2, 15th September 2006

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The House Captains have now been chosen by their respective houses. The House Captains are Natalie and Rashid for Chui, Anita and Oliver for Kifaru and Danielle and Micheal for Simba. There are a number of house competitions this term including art, swimming and a general knowledge quiz.

Fixtures begin next week for both cricket and rounders. Further details are available on the school calendar. Parental support is always welcome and appreciated by the students.

Activities began this week. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all who are running clubs, in particular the parents who are running activities this term, Mrs Allport for squash club and Mrs Soares and Mrs Lauro for the Italian club.

A request for secondary school parents; please do not drop students off at the roundabout, but to use the car park. Dropping students at the roundabout not only holds up traffic but interferes with our bus parking which has been introduced to improve safety. We also request that all vehicle users stick to the 10km/hr speed limit within the compound.

If you would like to receive this newsletter by email, please send a request to mis@africaonline.co.ke and you will be added to the mailing list.
