PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER, VOL. 1 No. 9, 16th March 2007

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Students of the Week
The Students of the Week ending 9th March 2007 were: Bella Huth (Play Group), David Badenhorst (Nursery), Sofia Velkos (Reception), Natasha Neylan (Y1), Jamie Jennings (Y2), Jerry Mulonzia (Y3), Anthony Neugebauer (Y4), Hamada Hamada (Y5) and Rickus Laurens (Y6). Well done, everyone.

Athletics Meet
At the Athletics Meet on Saturday 10th March BMIS did extremely well by as runners up. Aga khan came first but this was not our athletics term and we had not been training. Congratulations to all our young competitors who did so well and also for the great turn out of pupils, parents and teachers.

Kenton Hockey Festival
This weekend our under 11 and 13 boys are going to Nairobi to play in the prestigious Kenton Festival. We are the only school invited from the coast and, although we are certainly not expecting to win against the strong Nairobi traditions of hockey, we intend to render a very good account of ourselves. The boys who are flying will leave this afternoon on the 1440hrs flight and return tomorrow evening at 1840hrs. Parents should collect their boys from the airport. Those travelling by bus left at 0800hrs this morning and will return on Sunday at 0600hrs when they should be collected from the school. We wish our teams every success.

Primary School Production
This is taking place on Friday (23rd March) at 6.00 pm. The boarders will go to the boarding house after school and return at 5.30 pm to prepare for the production. Parents will be able to see the performance and take their children home afterwards. All KS2 children (Y3-6) should be at school by 5.30 pm to get ready. The PTA will run the bar with light refreshments. Please make sure your child is fed before the production.

Sponsored Read/Drums for Peace
We will be holding our Sponsored Read on Wednesday 21st March, the proceeds of which will go to ACTS (Assist a child to School). Attached to this newsletter is the sponsorship form. ACTS is a very good cause and there will be prizes for the three children who raise the most money. We will also be holding a fancy dress parade on that day for children who wish to come dressed as their favourite book character. At 11.15 am, we will be taking drums onto the field to beat them for peace. Every child will take a turn to beat them and this should be happening in all the Mombasa schools.

Year 5 Trip
Year 5 will be visiting Gedi Ruins and the Vasco da Gama Cross in Malindi on Monday as part of their history studies on explorers. We are very fortunate that so many historical sites are within easy reach and hope to take maximum advantage of them.
