PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER, VOL. 1 No. 10, 17th November 2006

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The Students of the Week ending 10th October 2006 were: Glen Jorgensen (Play Group), Ben Clarke (Nursery), Philine Sanders (Reception), Nusaibah Yusuf (Y1), Ryan Vidot (Y2), Reinout Sanders (Y3), Oliver Holding Fay (Y4), Olivia Cowan (Y5) and Celia Seeger (Y6). Well done, everyone!

The PTA Social/AGM will be taking place on Wednesday 29th November. Parents and teachers interested in standing for office and all parties interested in supporting the PTA should come along. The present committee will all be standing down and we need new faces to replace them.

The heavy rains last week made it necessary for most inter-school matches to be cancelled. We are very sorry about this.

This is the report from Mr. Farid about the big Gala held in Nairobi at the weekend:
"With a team of 11 swimmers, 8 Secondary girls and three Primary students, Alexander Onyango, Careena Pradhan and Yvonne Bachmann, the girls managed 10th place out of 21 and Alex got 16th place in the boys' overall rankings. In the 10 - 11 year old Girls' individual rankings, Yvonne got 10th place and Alex also got 10th place in the boys' individual rankings."
Thank you, Mr. Farid, Ms. Watsulu and Mr. Gitau for taking the team and well done to everyone, especially to our three intrepid Primary swimmers!

In the Coast Academy Annual Art Competition held on Saturday 28th October, Katie Jennings (Y5) was highly commended in the intermediate 8-10 section. Well done, Katie!

Next week is Primary exam week but after school activities will continue as normal.

The Y5 and 6 trip to Sagala takes place this weekend and we look forward to hearing the children's news. Many thanks to Mrs Veronique Jennings for organising it. The buses will arrive back at the school on Sunday at around 3.00 pm.

A big thank you to Ms. Chege and the children who presented their Kiswahili assembly today. Next week is the Early Years assembly - please don't miss it!

Have a good weekend,

Yours sincerely

SECONDARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER, VOL. 1 No. 10, 17th November 2006

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This weekend our President's award club are off to Taita for their Silver expedition. This is a three day expedition which involves students planning and carrying out a hike taking with them all the provisions they need for the trip. This is only part of what a student must do to obtain the Silver award. Participants in the scheme must complete six months of community based service. There are also skills and physical recreation sections, one must be undertaken for six months and the other for three months. Participants who have not completed the Bronze Award must add an extra three months in either the service section or in the longer of the skill and physical recreation sections (so one activity takes nine months, another takes six months, and the third takes three months).

Last weekend the under13s Rounders team and our Swimming team visited Nairobi to compete in Rounders tournament being held at Hillcrest School and the National Age Group Swimming Championships held at Kasarani respectively. A report about the swimming follows later. The Rounders team managed to draw two games in a very tough group. They were commended after the tournament for their sportsmanship.

The following are reports compiled about this week's events:-

Cricket: Bermuda vs Kenya, Tuesday 14th November, Nicolas Webb y12
On the 14th November, a few students were given the opportunity to go and watch one of the international cricket matches hosted by the Mombasa Sports Club. On the hot and sunny day both teams, Kenya and Bermuda, took to the field and played a total of 50 overs. Kenya were able to start batting and set an astonishing score of 305 runs for 6 wickets; once Bermuda went in to bat, Kenya's tight fielding only allowed them to make a total of 201 runs, handing the well deserved victory to Kenya. This epic match brought encouragement to all those there and this was possible thanks to Mr. Daniels, Mr Dale and Mr Gitau, who managed to arrange this trip for us.

National Swimming Championships, Mr. F. Mohamed

BMIS managed to get 16th Place in the Boys and 10th place in the Girls ranking out of 21 other schools and clubs. Bravo!

In the Girls 10-11 years individual rankings

Seniors 13- 15 Yessika Jennings

Intermediate 8 -10 Katie Jennings

Congratulations and well done to all.

Year 8 French Assembly, Mr S. Kirby
On Tuesday 14th November my year 8 class performed a French play in assembly. They wrote the play themselves and performed it excellently, mostly in French and with some English. Although the play was essentially a comedy, the message was a serious one. Even a few words of a foreign language can be a very useful thing!
A huge well done to the class! It was not an easy thing I asked them to do. Also a particular thank you in Olivia in year 7 who stepped in at very short notice for an absent student. She performed brilliantly as Thierry Henri's would be girlfriend!

If anyone has any old tyres that are sitting around and that they would be willing to donate to the school, these would be greatly appreciated by the games department.

A big thank you yet again, to all the parents who have signed up to receive this newsletter by email. If you would also like to receive this newsletter by email, thereby conserving paper and helping our school to become more environmentally friendly; please send an email request to mis@africaonline.co.ke

Have a lovely weekend.
