PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER, VOL. 1 No. 12, 1st December 2006

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The Students of the Week ending 24th November 2006 were: Beverly Omwando (Play Group), Kirstie Gitau (Nursery), Lily-Mae Phillips (Reception), Anna Clarke (Y1), Justin Walters (Y2), Telvin Stokes (Y3), Jamie Nicholas (Y4), Michelle Leichum (Y5) and Kylie McKenzie (Y6). Well done, everyone!

In the Under 11 rounders match against Mombasa Academy last Thursday, our girls played very well with some great bowling from Yvonne Bachmann but, sadly, we lost with a score of 4½ to 11.

The PTA Social/AGM on Wednesday took place under the banda. The turnout was disappointingly small and to save the PTA from disintegrating, the old committee members who had hoped to stand down have agreed to remain for one more year. There were some new faces, however, and everyone who attended joined the new committee. Our PTA members for the year 2006-7 are: Mrs. Noor Mohamed, Mrs. Galimberti, Mrs. Neugebauer, Mrs. Onyango, Mrs. Nesbitt, Mrs. Jiwaji, Mrs. Miranda, Mrs. Sassoon, Mrs. Holding Fay and Mrs. Soares.

Christmas stars and moons have been decorated by the children and are for sale from class teachers for Ksh.50. This money will go to the PTA and if there are any left by next week they will be on sale at the concert on Tuesday.

The Inter-house Art Competition was judged on Wednesday and I would like to thank the adjudicators, Mrs. Chater, Mrs. Jessop and Mr. Gannaway, for doing this very difficult job as all the entries were quite superb. The winning house was Chui followed by Simba and then Kifaru.

The Christmas Concert will take place on Tuesday in the Long Room. I would like to thank Mrs. Sassoon for coordinating the decorations with the help of Mrs. Jiwaji. Every child in the Primary School has contributed towards this display.

The children must be here at 5.45 pm and should have eaten before they arrive. Early Years children are requested to wear red and/or green while all the other children from Year 1 upwards should be in school uniform. Please send your child/children to their classrooms on arrival. We want to start promptly at 6.00 pm.

Sports Day begins at 8.30 am sharp on Thursday with the Early Years kicking off. The children should come to school in their PE kit and should be wearing their house T-shirts. Parents are invited to come and support their children. The PTA will be selling cakes so you may wish to give your children some money to purchase these.

After school activities will NOT take place next week. All buses will leave at 3.00 pm.

Santa will visit us on Friday 8th December and will bring presents for everyone in the Primary School. The Early Years children, together with Y1 and 2 will meet Santa in the Nursery at 11.00 am. The Early Years children can go home with their parents after that but Y1 and 2 will remain for the final assembly after which they will go back to their class teachers to collect their reports and go home. Buses will leave shortly after 12.00 pm.

Have a nice weekend.

Yours sincerely

A message from Mrs Hoskins:-
Is your child struggling at school? Could it be a specific language difficulty? Nuala Alibhai, Speech and Language Therapist, will be addressing this topic at a public meeting on Wednesday, December 6, from 2:30-4:30 pm in the PHC Conference Room at Aga Khan Hospital, Mombasa. Please come and invite a friend who may also have this concern. The meeting is sponsored by the Special Educational Needs Parent Support Group of the Aga Khan Hospital.

A big thank you yet again, to all the parents who have signed up to receive this newsletter by email. If you would also like to receive this newsletter by email, thereby conserving paper and helping our school to become more environmentally friendly; please send an email request to mis@africaonline.co.ke
