Oshwal U11 Football Tournament 16th June 2007
Thank you to the boys, parents and teachers who attended the U11 football tournament at Oshwal Academy last Saturday. Our two teams played very well indeed showing such a vast improvement since the tournament at Aga Khan. Mr. Harrison, our Computer Technician, has taken a big interest in our U11 teams and has spent most of his lunch times coaching them for this tournament since their losses at Aga Khan. It has really paid off! Thanks to Mr. Farid who took charge on the day and fired our boys with enthusiasm and Mr. Richard who was our referee. While ALL our team members played very well indeed, I was particularly impressed by Matthew Walters, Alex Onyango, Alex Canobbio, Wilf Nokes, David Nesbitt, Reinout Sanders, Stanley Nokes and Jackson Brown. Not only have the skills of all our boys improved dramatically but also their confidence as they eagerly await their next matches.
Report by David Nesbitt: We arrived at Oshwal with hopes high. We played our first match against Coast Academy which went quite well. However, Coast just managed to slip in a winning goal in the final minutes. The match ended in a 1-0 loss to Coast Academy. The second game was not so tragic. We played Jaffrey Academy and managed a tie of 0-0. In the third match we made some big changes to Team White. Alex Onyango, Nicholas Soares and I were all playing striker. Nile MacDonald was midfield, Richard Sanders and Stanley Nokes were defence and David Boulton was goalie. Unfortunately, we still lost to Aga khan 1-0. In the fourth and final match there was a display of bad sportsmanship by our opponents, Oshwal. As we walked to the field we were told that Oshwal had forfeited the match. We were stumped as to why they would do this as they had been playing all morning. However, it meant that we lost our chance to score some points and better our 3rd place overall position in the tournament. The most important thing is that everyone had fun and enjoyed themselves.
Report by Matthew Walters: Last week the U11 football team played in a tournament for Mombasa schools. Braeburn came 3rd out of five schools, losing two matches and drawing two. In the game against Mombasa Academy, Alex Onyango was made Man of the Match. Everyone on the team had great fun!!
Report by David Boulton: As we arrived at Oshwal Academy we could see the other teams warming up. Aga Khan, Coast Academy, Mombasa Academy and Oshwal were all there. Our first match was Braeburn A vs. Coast Academy. This was our team: Attack=Oliver Boulton, Nile MacDonald and Nicholas Soares. Centre=Devid Nesbitt and Petro Kombe. Defence=Alex Onyango (c), Richard Sanders and Stanley Nokes. GK=David Boulton. BMIS lost 1-0 to Coast Academy. Our second match took place 14 minutes after the first. This was against Oshwal Academy. The score was 0-0. We came across Aga Khan in our third game. The score was 1-0 to Aga Khan. Our fourth match was against Oshwal 'B' but they withdrew, giving us only 1 point instead of 4. If we could have just played that match we could have been placed 2nd. Well done to the team! The Man of the Match was Stanley Nokes.
Report by Kyle Spencer: On 16th June we were invited to a soccer tournament at Oshwal Academy. We arrived at 9.00 am and started with some stretching and a light jog. Kick off was at 9.30 am. There were two teams, Braeburn Blue and Braeburn White. I was in Braeburn Blue. The teams were Matthew Walters (GK), Alex Canobbio and Reinout Sanders (D), Tony Neugebauer, Hamada Hamada and Kyle Spencer (M), Allan Harding (Capt.), Jackson Brown and Wilf Nokes (S). The first match was Mombasa Academy v Braeburn Blue and they won 1-0. Our second was Oshwal and we drew 0-0. Our third match was against Light Academy and they won 1-0. Our last final match was against Aga Khan and we drew 0-0. At the end of the day we were 3rd out of 5. Well done to everyone!

Tennis Activity
Tennis will continue to be on offer next term after school on Wednesdays. Just a reminder that interested children must possess their own racquets. The cost per term for the activity from 3.00 - 4.00 pm is Ksh.1,500 but if they wish to be coached after that from 4.00 - 5.00 pm, the cost is Ksh.500 per session.

The Golden Goose
Our Early Years, Y1 and Y2 children will be presenting "The Golden Goose" tonight at 6.30 pm. They themselves, however, should report to their classrooms at 6.00 pm for changing into their costumes and getting ready. We would like to make a prompt start as so many very young children are involved. If there are any PTA members who are willing to help man the bar, please step forward.
The Secondary production is on Tuesday (26th June) at 6.30 pm and there will be some Y6 children involved.

After School Activities
Just a reminder that there will be no after school activities next week. All buses will leave at 3.00 pm.

Non-Uniform Day
There will be a special non-uniform day on Tuesday to help Y8 raise money for the Watamu Turtle Watch as part of their PSHE project. They are also making things to sell at the Secondary production "Tight Lines".

School Magazine (Year Book)
Mrs. Miranda (Y2) has been collecting photographs, pictures and work of all kinds to put into the first Braeburn Mombasa magazine. Most of this is now in Nairobi and it will be a beautiful record of everything the school has done this year. She is still compiling and sending more material up. This glossy, colour magazine will be very expensive to produce and much of the cost can be offset by sponsors who wish to advertise in it. If parents would like to promote their businesses in the magazine, please let us know by sending us your logo and advertisement or simply email it to primaryheadteacher@braeburnmombasa.co.ke which I will then forward to our Marketing Manager in Nairobi. The rates are as follows:

Description Amount
Inside front page/rear page full colour: Ksh. 30,000/-
A4 page full colour: Ksh. 15,000/-
A4 page black and white: Ksh. 12,500/-
A5 page full colour: Ksh. 10,000/-
A5 page black and white:
Ksh. 5,000/-

The closing date for advertisements to come in is 23rd July 2007.

Last Day of Term
We break up on Friday (29th June). Speech Day and Prize Giving will start at 11.00 am after which the children will go to their classrooms to collect reports. Buses should leave shortly after 12.00 pm.

Have a good weekend.

We are sending two teams of nine girls to the Banda Netball tournament this weekend. This is the fourth year that we have been invited to this tournament and the second year that we have taken two teams. Best of luck to both teams.

The IGCSE and A-Level results release date has been changed to 9/8/07 not 7/8/07 as previously reported.

Next Tuesday will be a non-uniform day in aid of Turtle Watch, Watamu. This is a project that our year 8 students have chosen to support as part of their PSHE community work unit. They have already performed an entertaining and informative assembly to raise awareness and are now trying to raise money for the project. Currently, they are designing and making sea craft items to sell at the secondary production. We would like to see many of the students dressed in sea and turtle colours on Tuesday.

Tonight sees our primary school production of 'The Golden Goose'. On Tuesday we have the premiere performance of Ivan Gannaway's latest blockbuster 'Tight Lines', loosely based on Hemmingway's 'Old Man of the Sea' performed by our secondary school students and aided by a number of primary school children.

We will have our annual Speech Day and Prize Giving next Friday starting at 11am. All are welcome.
