Kenton Hockey Festival
Last weekend a number of our boys went to Nairobi with Mr. Gitau, Mr. Farid and myself to play at the Kenton Hockey Festival. Their effort and behaviour were exceptional as well as their performance on the hockey field. They trained late into the night on Friday and were up before the sun and working out on Saturday morning. The under 13 team drew two matches one of which was against the overall winners, Peponi! The under 11 team won a game against Greensteads with Nile MacDonald scoring the goal. Special congratulation was made to Waseem Hamada by the Headteacher of Peponi for his amazing goal keeping. I would like to thank all the boys who participated so well, Mr. Gitau for his training and enthusiasm, Mr. Farid for his hard work at the weekend, Ali for driving all the way there and back, Mr. Sanders who accompanied us and did some extra training with the boys before the tournament and Mrs. Walters for coming all that way to support us. It was a really great weekend. Please see the report by Nile MacDonald at the end of this newsletter

RATS!
The Key Stage 2 production of "Rats!" will begin at 6.00 pm this evening. The children should be at the school by 5.30 pm having been fed and watered. The PTA is kindly organising a bar and the kitchen will provide tea and coffee for parents with juice and biscuits for the children after the production is over. The World Cross Country starts tomorrow so we want to start and finish promptly as it's a fairly short production. We will be recording it as usual.

Raffle Tickets
Raffle tickets have been on sale in the office and they will be on sale this evening during the production from Mrs. Rossella Soares. Please don't forget to buy some. The draw will be made during the last assembly of term when the Secondary School will present excerpts from "Smike".

Sponsored Read/Drums for Peace
On Wednesday we held the sponsored read and hope that all the children will get sponsors to support our charity, ACTS. There was a lovely parade of book characters at break time and every class from Y1-6 played drums for peace followed by poems from the children. The sponsorship money should be brought in to class teachers in the first week of next term.

Assemblies
Thank you, Mrs. Veronique, Ms. Chege, Ms. Watsulu and all the Early Years children for your great assembly. I hope everyone enjoyed it.

Activities
There will be no after school activities next week. All buses will leave at 3.00 pm. The new activities choices for next term will go out with the final newsletter on Friday. Private instrumental tuition will continue as normal but if your child is unable to attend lessons, please inform the teacher concerned at least the day before.

Reports/End of Term
Term 2 reports will be issued on Friday (30th March) which is the last day of term. Buses will leave at 12.00 pm.

Year 5 Trip
Year 5 went to Gede Ruins in Watamu on Monday followed by the Vasco da Gama Cross and Portuguese Church in Malindi. It was a first hand experience of early Arab settlement and the coming of the Portuguese to East Africa and was a perfect conclusion to their current History studies of Tudor explorers and settlers.

Nursery Trip
The Nursery children went on a trip to the Bamburi Butterfly Centre yesterday and will be going to the Serena Beach Hotel and Diving Centre on Monday. They have had an exciting two weeks.

Have a good weekend.

OUR WEEKEND IN NAIROBI FOR THE KENTON HOCKEY FESTIVAL
BY: NILE MACDONALD, CAPTAIN UNDER 11s.

Last Friday the under 11 hockey team left for Nairobi to attend the Kenton Hockey Festival.

Our first match was against Banda and the score was 3-0 to Banda. Our defenders were Oliver Boulton, right defense, David Nesbitt, left defense and Richard Sanders, centre defense. Our attackers were Nile MacDonald (Captain) and Bradley Lionnet (Vice Captain). Our goal keeper was Fergus Leckie.

It was very good play, especially by the goal keeper and defense.

The second match was against Kenton College and the score was 1-0 to Kenton. We changed the team and put Matthew Walters in as our centre defense and Stanley Nokes as right defense. We kept our attackers the same. We enjoyed playing this match.

The third match was against Greensteads and the score was 1-0 to us! Nile scored the goal from a long corner set up by Bradley. It was excellent teamwork by everyone.

Our fourth match was against Pembroke House and the score was 3-0 to Pembroke. It was a hard match because we were all very tired and feeling the altitude.

We came 4th overall out of 7 schools and hope to be invited back next year.

SECONDARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER, VOL. 2 No. 10, 23rd March 2007

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Last weekend, sixteen of our students went to Nairobi to take part in the Kenton sixes hockey tournament. The following are reports from Euan and David Nesbitt who both participated in the event.

Kenton College Hockey Festival-2007, Euan Nesbitt, year 7

We entered two teams in this year's tournament.
The Kenton Hockey Festival has been going on for 36 years. Luckily for us, we were picked for the third time.
On the U-13 side, we started off on a slow note; losing 5-0 against Banda (the defending champions) and 3-0 to the hosts of the tournament, Kenton. After those losses we decided to kick it up a notch. And amazingly, after doing this, we held Hillcrest (last year's finalists) to a draw.
Later we took on Peponi (this year's winner) and held them at an unfair draw, after having a flick (penalty) disallowed us due to unfair refereeing.
This year we played much better than last year, partly due to better training and skill. And also because our coach, Mr. Gitau, never gave up on us, and so neither did we.

Kenton College Hockey Festival-2007, David Nesbitt, year 4

In the under 11 category we played our first match against Banda, losing 3-0. The next match we played was against Kenton (the hosts of the tournament), and we lost 1-0. We lost to Pembroke too, also 3-0. The final match we played was against Greensteds. We beat them 1-0 with a goal scored by our captain Nile Macdonald. I'm pretty sure we did better than last time even though I wasn't there last year.

A message from our French department:-

On Friday 30th March a small group of 15 to 17 year old girls from a school in France are visiting us. The purpose of their visit is to find out something about Kenyan lifestyle and speak English in a family setting.

If you feel you are able to accommodate one of these girls over the weekend of March 30th, March 31st and April 1st and perhaps show them a few of the tourist attractions they would be very grateful.

These girls are used to travel, already speak excellent English and would present no problems during this short stay. Some of you budding linguists can even practice your French. For more information please contact Mr. Kirby at the school.
