Bio Foods National Junior Swimming Championships -Nairobi
As you know, Braeburn MIS had to pull out of the Bio Foods Gala in Nairobi on Saturday and Sunday. However, Olivia Cowan of Year 5 stepped in and single handedly represented us after all. This is something that has never happened before in our school. She won two gold medals for us which is no small achievement in a gala where 23 schools were competing. Olivia, well done! We are so proud of you.

U7 Swimming Gala on Saturday
We wish our under 7 swimming team good luck at the gala tomorrow. The venue has been changed from Aga Khan Academy to Oshwal Academy in Nyali. The children should be there at 8.00 am and Mr. Farid thinks it will finish between 4.00 and 5.00 pm.

Last Saturday's Netball and Football Tournaments
Our U11 boys and girls played very hard in the Football and Netball tournaments at Aga Khan last Saturday and, although they didn't win any trophies they showed the great BMIS spirit and really enjoyed their matches. A big thank you to Mrs. Jennings, Ms. Andrews, Mr. Gitau and Mr. Harrison for their coaching and attendance and also to the large number of parents who came to transport and support their children as some came from as far as Kilifi and South Coast.

Netball
The U11 girls played matches against Mombasa Academy and Aga Khan on Tuesday. They lost 2-5 to Aga Khan and won 4-1 to Mombasa Academy. Well done, girls!
Also on Tuesday the U16 girls drew their very exciting match against Mombasa Academy 12-12.
The result of yesterday's U13 match against Jaffrey Academy will be reported in the next newsletter.
On Tuesday (29th May) the U13 netball team will play Aga Khan and Mombasa Academy away at Aga Khan. We wish them every success in both games.

Football
The U16 football team played Jaffrey Academy at home on Tuesday and lost 4-1. They played Aga Khan away on Wednesday and the score was 6-1 to Aga Khan. Keep trying, boys, and thank you, Mr. Took, for your encouragement and time.
The result of yesterday's U13 match against Mombasa Academy will be reported in the next newsletter.
On Tuesday (29th May) the U13 team will play Light Academy at home. This will be their first fixture with Light Academy and we wish them every success.

Primary Exam Week
Just a reminder that when we come back from half term on 4th June, the children go straight into exam week. Please make sure they arrive promptly in the morning.

Y6 SATs Timetable
Y6 have been given their timetable for the SATs week from 11th - 14th June. Please make sure that you are aware of these SATs dates and times.

Primary SATs Parent/Teacher Interviews
After the optional SATs papers have been marked and your child awarded a level, you may wish to talk to the Class Teacher about them. Class teachers will be available on Friday 15th June from 3.00 - 5.00 pm (approx.) to meet with parents, explain the National Curriculum levels and let them see their children's papers. These cannot be taken away, of course, as they are used every year. Ms. Andrews may spread her meetings over more than one day. You will be receiving a letter from your child's class teacher about this in due course.

ABRSM Exams
These will be held on Friday 8th June in the long room. We will be putting the whole area out of bounds and asking the children to play well away from the long room. The exam timetable is as follows:
09:30 Mrs. Nokes, 09:45 Stanley Nokes, 09:57 Mr. Nokes, 10:09 Wilf Nokes,

12:00 Amy Phillips, 12:12 Mrs. Miranda, 12:22 Ms. Andrews, 12:37 Mrs. Lauro.

Assemblies
Thank you, Mrs. Sassoon and Y1 for your delightful rendition of the Three Little Pigs. Y2's assembly will be on Wednesday 6th June. This is because of the ABRSM exams.

From Mrs. Dale: I wanted to congratulate the Y8 students for their assembly on "Turtles" this week. It was well presented with excellent contributions from all of them. This is an ongoing project for which they will be taking part in a sponsored swim after half term. They will be inviting parents to an afternoon tea and they are currently working on sea craft items to sell. All the money raised will go to the Watamu Turtle Watch which is their chosen community project. Please support them.

Photographs
The children have been given their proof photographs and an order form for parents to complete and return to the school with the cash/cheque (payable to Braeburn Mombasa International School). Please note that the photographer has forgotten to include the 18% VAT. A separate attachment has been stapled on. We cannot accept payments without the VAT included. Please return orders to the school accountant by Monday 4th June. Any orders after that must go directly to the photographer in Nairobi at the address given on the form with cheques made payable to "Spectrum Colour Lab Ltd".

World Environment Day
Saturday 2nd June is World Environment Day and Bamburi Cement, together with Lafarge Eco Systems will be hosting an Open Day in Haller Park to celebrate it. The Park will be open to all free of charge from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm when they will conduct tours and showcase their environmental achievements. Y7 will be going with Mrs. Gicheru to plant trees on Monday 4th June.

Work Experience
Y10 students will be out of school on work experience next week from Monday 28th to Wednesday 30th May.

Have a good weekend.
