PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER, VOL. 1 No. 4, 29th September 2006

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The Students of the Week ending 22nd September were Beverly Omwando (Play Group), Zuzia Sosno'wka (Nursery), Albert Nokes (Reception), Felicienne Lauro (Y1), Justin Walters (Y2), Giorgia Lauro (Y3), Matthew Walters (Y4), Fergus Leckie (Y5) and Fatima Marrosetti (Y6). Well done, everyone!

Last week the Under 11 Boys' Cricket team lost to Aga Khan by 11 runs and the Girls' U11 Rounders team lost 5-1 to Mombasa Academy. They were both well played games but disappointing for the Primary teams. This week, however, our U11 Girls beat Shree with a score of 5-7 so things are changing! Next Thursday the U9 Rounders team will be playing Shree away and we wish them every success.

Children who will be competing in the National Age Groups Short Course on Saturday 7th October will have received a letter for parents to sign and return by Monday. This is largely for Secondary students but some Primary children will be involved.

A big thank you to all the parents who attended the Parents' Evening this week. Next Wednesday (4th October) is the Secondary Parents' Evening. After school activities will not take place and buses will leave at 3.00 pm.

On Tuesday (3rd October) we will be holding our Inter-House Swimming Gala. Parents are invited to attend from 8.30 am.

Thank you, Y6, for your assembly on proverbs. Next week is Y5's assembly.

Have a good weekend,

Allen Corbet

SECONDARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER, VOL. 1 No. 4, 29th September 2006

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We have our secondary school parents next Wednesday. This will run from 3 pm until 5 pm in the long room. We will be operating a first-come-first-served system due to the number of subject teachers in the secondary.

The Inter House Swimming competition will be held on Tuesday of next week from 8.30am until lunchtime. This will involved students from year 1 up to year 13. Parental support will be appreciated.

Mrs. Jennings would like any old magazines and cardboard boxes for the Art Department.

The following passages are reports compiled by students and teachers on clubs, sports and activities.

Cricket report,
There appears to be considerable cause for optimism this term in regard to standard of cricket being played at the school. Firstly, the under 11 team, coached by Mr. Dale, have already shown a marked improvement on last season. We also have a number of talented cricketers in the under 13 side and the open side. By R. Daniels

Under 11 cricket match against Aga Khan played at home,
Aga Khan 54 runs BMIS 43 runs all out
On Thursday 21st September Aga Khan came for the under 11 cricket match. Aga Khan as guests decided to bat first. There was some good bowling from our bowlers but there is room for improvement and Aga Khan team scored quite a few fours but no sixes.
Our opening batsmen did well and scored a fair few runs with a couple of fours. Unfortunately Aga Khan bowlers were very accurate and successfully bowled and caught out our team.
We look forward to our next under 11 match against Shree and hope to be the winning team. By David Boulton, y6

Rounders report,
The under 16 girls rounders team have started the term in flying form. Their first match against Mombasa Academy has shown they are starting as they mean to carry on. Winning 4 -3 in a tightly fought game the under 16 are in the running to win the league trophy. By Ms. Andrews

Rounders report- Braeburn's Broadsides skuttle Shree,
After a shaky start against a more mature Mombasa Academy side, our under 11 rounders team had been absorbing top tips from their friends higher up in the school. While the first match on Thursday 21st. September showed up their inexperience against MA; the same team
played Shree on Tuesday 26th. With confident batting, sensible fielding and greater tactical awareness.
Yvonne and Christine scored sensational rounders, ably assisted by valuable half rounders from Kylie, Olivia and Careena. Shree girls put up a valiant defence during the second innings but it was not enough leaving BMIS victorious with 7 rounders compared to 4 1/2 . By Mrs Gicheru

Cross Country activity,
On the whole I am pleased with the general improvement of the group. The students are now able to run for longer and they are beginning to gain a team mentality. To enhance things further can I please urge parents to urge children to do at least one run per week. I am grateful to Mr. Hill for his support to this activity. Indeed, the last occasion, his choice of sunglasses caused much amusement. By Mr. Kirby
