Y7
art and History Trip to Old Town and Fort Jesus
On
Wednesday 24th January the Year 7 ventured into the Old Town and
Fort Jesus. They went to collect first hand information on different
buildings and architectural structures so as to help them with ideas
for designing their own house.
Here
Julia Rogers tells her story of the day
When
we got to school in the morning we did our regular routine, then
we walked over to the bus. It took 25 minutes to get to Fort Jesus
from school. When we got there Mrs. Jennings told us that we were
going to walk around the Old town and draw some doors, windows and
decorations. There were so many different types and we all settled
down to draw different parts of the buildings. As we were walking
back to Fort Jesus, we took some rubbings from the doors. This was
a great way to record the patterns, often much easier than drawing
them!
After
old Town was finished we went to have our snack in Fort Jesus, while
eating Mr. Took, told us the interesting story of Fort Jesus. Then
he gave a worksheet to do so that we could remember all the facts
he had just told us! After finishing the worksheet, Mrs. Jennings
told us to choose something in the Fort to draw as it was different
from what we had already seen.
We
then went up to see the Old Law Courts and had to draw either the
tower, clock, arches or coat of arms. Then time ran out and we had
to get back to school. It had been fun but quite hot and tiring,
though four hours went quickly.
"Time flies when you're having fun!"
Art
Trip -Bombolulu workshop and culture centre
On
Monday 29th January Y9 and two year 13 went to Bombolulu Cultural
Center. The purpose of the trip was for them to collect different
design ideas, see how fashion objects are made, different materials
used and to see how one design can be transfer across different
purposes and functions.
Mrs. Jennings
Mrs.
Gicheru and Mrs. Jennings accompanied us on our trip. We did a few
sketches of all the different patterns surrounding us, so that we
could get ideas for our designs in class.
These interesting workshops are operated by the disabled and this
really shows that just because they have a disability does not mean
they are any different from us they could still do carvings, stitching,
paintings and more.
We
were able to see some screen printing being done and a couple were
able to try it out and bring them home. It was also kind of cool
how they made decorations out old soda cans.
Many
thanks to our guide John, Mrs. Gicheru and Mrs. Jennings for organizing
such a wonderful and successful art trip.
