BRAEBURN HIGH SCHOOL - SPORTS MATCH RESULTS

RUGBY:

A TEAM

Braeburn Vs Strathmore

Braeburn Won 24-0. Try Scorers: Peter (2) And Ismaila (2). Peter scored the best try. Man of the match was Abdalla and Ian. To improve on this performance we should work on our own lineout moves. Nana and Maurice also had strong performance.

Braeburn Vs Greensteds

Braeburn Won 36-0. Try Scorers: Peter (2), Nnaemeka, and Ismaila (3). The try of The Match was scored by Ismaila, who was also the man of the match along with Emmanuel. To improve we could try to play to the whistle and listen to what the ref says.

Braeburn vs Rosslyn- by Ismaila Ngum

Braeburn won: 49-3, with tries from Aldo, Ian, Ismaila, Mohammed P, Maurice and Abdalla. Funmi and Sola both got two tries. The best try was scored by Ismaila. Mohammed Tifow and Ian got the convertions. Maurice got a yellow card. Mohammed Tifow was man of the match. It was a brilliant team performance, however to improve we must get to the breakdown faster and use the backline more.

Braeburn v Peponi- by Ismaila Ngum

Braeburn won 15-5. Try scorers: Ismaila, Maurice and Ian. The best try was scored by Ismaila. Man of the match was Ian. To improve on this performance we should work on our ball handling skills.

Braeburn v Brookhouse - by Ismaila Ngum

Braeburn won 46-0. Try scorers: Ismaila (3), Emmanuel (2), Peter, Sola and Johnathan. Man of the match was Sola. The ball handling was better, but we still have to work on getting cleaner lineout ball.

Tournament Report: Turi 7's

This wasn't an easy tournament, with Braeburn winning 1 out of 4 very tough matches. In the end the altitude got to us and we just weren't fit enough. The guys played well however with tries from Emanuel(3) Ismaila(2) and Sola(2).

Match report: Semi-final Braeburn v Hillcrest

It was a very hard match but in the end Braeburn lost 10-5, with Ismaila scoring Braeburn's only try. They seemed hungrier than us and we never really hit our strides.

Under 15 Development team (B Team):

  • Braeburn vs West Nairobi - by Paul Owino (Captain)

On 30th April 2007, the Under 15 development team played against West Nairobi School. They are a new school on the ISL circuit and new to rugby so confidence was high. However we underestimated them.

We scored the first try but missed the conversion and it gave us further confidence in our ability. West Nairobi proved to be more difficult than we had thought but we persevered and Misha Desai scored the second try.

West Nairobi pushed back and scored tow converted tries to put then 2 points ahead of us. Thankfully Rene Okech scored a breakaway try from the first attempt at playing as centre only to see West Nairobi score again. In the last few minutes of the game David Waugh sealed victory with a converted try.

As captain, I must commend Rene Okech for some aggressive play and Rameez Shabir for some great tackles in the backs. Brice Heffinck and Misha Desai also made some great runs through the West Nairobi line. However, man of the match deservedly goes to Nick Amirian who made some remarkable runs on his first ever rugby appearance.
Final score: Braeburn 24 - West Nairobi 21

  • Braeburn Vs Rosslyn U15 - by Paul Owino (Captain)

On the 10th May 2007 the Under 15 Development squad played Rosslyn at Rugby in their third match of the season. In the previous match against Rosslyn a lot of the stronger first squad players were available and the game was won quite easily. Several of the development squad players were unable to play due to prior commitments so a weakened team was forced to fulfil this fixture.

This game we automatically assumed we would win, oh how we where mistaken by the end of the first quarter when we were 10 - 0 down. But then a sudden burst of energy and positive play from Braeburn and especially Rene Okech led to a great try, which was unfortunately not converted. It gave Braeburn some hope and this was followed with a great run from Nana Busia who selflessly gave a try scoring opportunity to Bode to score and grab the glory. Yet again the conversion was missed. Just at the point where we thought we would end up with a draw they scored again through a lack of organisation on our parts, but we continued to push on unfortunately in the last quarter they scored once and also put away the conversation. The final score was 22 - 10 to Rosslyn; a disappointing result.

I would like to give special mention to Abraham who showed great aggression and enythusiasm throughout the game, Nana for his coolness and assisting runs but most of all I would like to give a special mention to Bode who made some magnificent runs, great communication and big tackles.

  • Vs Braeside Open - 14th June 2007

It turned out to be a mis match - Braeside fielding an entirely Open side while Braeburn fielded what was mainly an Under 15 side with 2 Open players thrown into the action.... in weather conditions that could only be classed as appalling, added to the humour of the spectacle!

Mr Dean cowered under the stands to stay dry while Mr Felix Ochieng (Assistant Kenya 7's Coach and Level 2 Referee) finally took control of his first game in the pouring rain.

The game started off very scrappy due to the conditions and after some big hits taken by Braeside, they eventually managed to squirm their way around the Braeburn defence and score a try. Conversion missed the game restarted: 5 - 0 to Braeside after 5 mins. Braeburn had a great break by the back line after some quick hands from Mohammed Foulser, Kim Verweil and Ismalia Ngum but it led to a call for a forward pass before Momodou Jallow could score on is debut!

A second try quickly followed after a silly mistake from the Braeburn back line. Half time came and Nana Busia was not enjoying the conditions so came off with Agapitos Smaragdis coming on and instantly making an impact with some good but unsuccsseful breaks. Braeside took advantage of another silly mistake from Braeburn, not helped by the conditions and this time converted too. 17 - 0 to Braeside.

In the last 10 minutes Braeside began tiring and with the introduction of Ian Melly - a late change wearing Mr Deans shorts and Agap's trainers a break was made for Mohammed Foulser to score a try and Jonmathon Pretince to convert! Final Score 17 - 7 to Braeside. We jumped on the bus and what is usually a 5 minute ride home took an amazing and amusing 1 and a quarter hours! Thanks Kingori!

UNDER 15 NETBALL:

A TEAM REPORTS by Collette Minjauw:

First match of the season. Started well, the teamwork was good and by halftime we were leading 13-7.by the end of the 3rd quarter our lack of fitness was showing, Hillcrest A played hard and the scores were 16-11 to us. Last quarter was a huge fight, we played our best and although Hillcrest put up a fight, we were clearly the stronger team. We went on to win 21-19. Players of the match: Razan Gubara and Namulinda Sipula.

Greensteds B played rough but we had more skill. Our passes were not always right but we played well and the end score was 27-2 win to us. Player of the match was Namulinda Sipula. She played several positions and was outstanding in each one.

On Saturday 5th May, we traveled up to Greensteds. It was a long and bumpy ride but we finally arrived in time for a bit of practice before it got dark. That night we slept in tents and gut up early to have breakfast before our first game. It was hot and humid so it was hard to play.

Our first match was against Peponi B. We went in disappointed not to have Maxine, a key player, and so we started off quite badly. We quickly got ourselves together and we had a clean win of 18 - 9.

The second match was against Turi A. A much harder team. Once again we started off badly but quickly caught up with the a tremendous effort by the whole team. Once again we all started slacking off and after several bad passes and stepping fouls we ourselves losing and the whole team got annoyed and blamed each other. This resulted in a 20 - 11 loss because of the team disagreement. Even though it was our first loss of the season hopefully we can get ourselves back together and ready for our next matches. Man of the Match was Razan.

ON Wednesday 9th May we played against Premier at home. We went in over confident and our first quarter wasn't great. Knowing we could do much better we back in ready to play. There was some contact between the two teams \and this time the disagreement was from Premier. Even though our missing several team players due to the play rehearsal we won 34 - 5. Man of the match Chantal.

On Saturday 19th May we went to Hillcrest as the Braeburn College pitches were badly flooded and play was impossible. We had to wait for a while for our first match so we played a friendly with the B's. This time we were missing Nazia so that team had to shuffle around to fill in positions. We then played Braeside A. It was a good match for us and this team had no disagreement from either of the teams. Our team played brilliantly, with good passes and great defence when the ball went into our defensive third. Man of the match was Courtney as she had to be GS instead of Nazia and did a fabulous job. Braeburn won 40 - after an outstanding goal from Braeside. It was a great match and hopefully can play like that in the finals.

B TEAM REPORTS by Kate Snow:

Braeburn B v Hillcrest B

The U15B season got off to a good start, after a well - deserved victory against Hillcrest B. The team walked away with a close 17 - 16 win after a challenging match.
We started off well, dominating the first 15 minutes of the match, but by half time it was very close between Hillcrest and ourselves.
During the third quarter we started to relax and Hillcrest came back aggressively.
But in the final quarter we were determined to win, and fought back strongly.
However, the highlight of our game was the fantastic defending of our two star defenders; Karimi and Sharon. They were both no doubt the players of the match.
Well done to the whole team for their endless commitment and positive attitudes throughout the game.

Braeburn B v Greensteds A

The second match of our season was a more tough game and we knew we had to approach the match with aggression and confidence.
We started off well in the first quarter and were determined to continue our hard work throughout the match. By half time we were in the lead and keen to stretch the lead longer. Greensteds however stepped up their game, and caught up strongly. We knew we needed to get aggressive.
The last quarter was neck in neck and both teams had simultaneous goals. Although we fought hard and refused to give up the final whistle blew and the scores remained level; 18-18.
With her non-stop hard work, excellent defending and fernonamous attacking, Pia was voted the player of the match. Well done to the team for their unlimited hard work, determination and refusal to give up.

Braeburn B v Nairobi Academy

We started the match off well with a few early goals, but Nairobi Academy fought back strong and we were neck in neck with a slight lead by half time. We knew we were playing well, but knew we could play a lot better.
We then stepped up the game and with the help of our supporters restrained our opposition from coming back and took away our victory from them. We won with a score of 29-5. Our player of the match was Muthoni, for her excellent shooting but special thanks to the team for their non-stop hard work.
Well done!

Braeburn U15B v Turi U15B

We knew it would be an easy match but we also knew not to be over- confident. We started off strongly and dominated throughout the first half.
Consistently scoring goal after goal.
In the last quarter, we were certain victory was in our hands, therefore swapping positions we had never played before. Although our victory, we were glad we had had fun.
I would like to congratulate the whole team, but especially Sharon, for playing goal shooter and scoring convincingly good goals. (Even though she is our goal keeper). Thanks to all.

SWIMMING:

Kasarani Swimming Report - by Phillipa Carnelley

Our small but largely motivated swimming team were ready to make splash at Kasarani Swimming Gala. The hard, trying training sessions (where Mr. Dean felt quite at home on dry land) were hopefully going to pay off.

With the previous gala not quite what we, we were determined to prove ourselves. Our team of swimmers did what they could to fill every event and both boys and girls did extremely well.

With an Overall of 3rd for swimming and only beaten by 2 points for second place(and a 1st for team spirit) Braeburn pulled through yet again rising to the rough challenge. Even more amazing considering that last year in the same event Braeburn finished 6th.

Special mentions to Andrew Boyd who as a Year 9 student was swimming in the Open Category and came a close 4th, and also to Segolene Balay for also swimming in the older age category and claimed 2 medals.

All team members had a thoroughly good time, encouraging each other on. Full of success and pride, we trooped back to the bus to come home. It was a fun filled day.

A large thank you to Mrs. Muugi and Mr. Dean for organizing and encouraging us to take part and do our best (and for the sodas)
