BRAEBURN SCHOOL

EARLY YEARS UNIT NEWSLETTER - September 2006

Dear Parents,

Welcome
Welcome back to school and a special welcome to the families new to EYU. We hope that this term will be fun and exciting for your child as they begin their learning journey with us. The teachers and assistants have been making sure that your children are feeling safe, secure and happy to come to school. This has been a priority for us here at EYU for the last 2 weeks.

Green Diaries
We hope that your child has been bringing home a green book every day called the Home-School diary. We ask that you fill in the inside front cover, just incase of an emergency and we need to contact you. Please find some time to read the first few pages - they contain relevant information for you and how you can help your child at school.

Also, you will find a copy of your child's timetable at the back of the diary, so you will know when to send in swimming kits (and games kits for Reception children).

The teachers check these diaries every day, so please write in them if you parents and practitioners should work together in an atmosphere of mutual respect within which children can have security and confidence.
would like to tell us something.

Termly Plans

The focus of these first two weeks in school has been to ensure a smooth entry into the EYU. The activities the children have been doing are on display outside their classrooms on notice boards.

On 25th September, we will all start our first theme for the year, which will run till half term (only 3 weeks!) Nursery will be studying "All about me" and Reception "Ourselves". The themes change every half term. Please find the medium term planners attached. The weekly activities to address the areas of learning will be displayed outside the classrooms on the notice boards.

If you have any books or videos or ideas etc to support your child's theme, then please let us know.

EYU Opening morning
Parents are invited to join their children in the EYU on Thursday 28th September, 10:30 - 12:30 for an open morning. It will be an opportunity to observe you child in their classroom and to meet other parents. There will be a short information sharing session afterwards when we hope to tell you more about the curriculum here at Braeburn.

Should you wish to, you may take your child home with you afterwards. We ask that you please complete and return the attached form.

And finally, a key principle of our EY curriculum ……

We look forward to your ongoing support and continuing involvement.

Many thanks,

Victoria Speight,

RB Teacher and EYU Coordinator
