Dear
parents, guardians and friends of Braeside Primary,
It
is yet again that time when we get to look back on what has been
in the term.
This
has been a fulfilling term-short yet full of activity.
The
parents' reviews in the last 3 weeks have been quite insightful.
I am sure having attended these; you now know your child's strengths,
weaknesses and the way forward. I salute all the children and teachers
for the steadfast work that has ensured progression and improvement
in the learning circle.
The
year group trips have continued this half of the term. The children
derive a great deal of pleasure not to mention exposure for them
as highlighted below.

EARLY
YEAR'S FUN DAY
The
Early Years' Fun Day on 24th march 2007 was a blast!!
Adults and children alike had a great time. We all had a chance
of going down the 'fun lane' and doing activities that we have long
forgotten about.
All
the children, teachers and parents managed to strike a balance between
competition and team work, energetic activities and relaxation.
This
is what our young ones perceived of the whole event

Year
6 Camp
Yeah!
Year 6 camp in school was fun; I really had a great time, just staying
there for one night. I was glad to change into my home clothing
after school and go to the events. The boys were playing football
and the girls were decorating their tents for the fashion show.
After
that it was dinnertime, everyone ate sausages, rice and mashed potatoes.
Then we went back to the field to have more fun. As always boys
were playing football. The girls went to start the fashion show.
We had different categories, we had beach categories, normal categories
and the last was the weird category. Soon it was time to change
into our pajamas and sleep but some of the girls in the tent stayed
up until 2.00 p.m. playing balloon games. In the morning everyone
was tired and we had to shower in cold, chilling water. During breakfast
we had sausage, egg and cereals after which everyone went swimming.
After
that Ms. Odhiambo took all the girls too Crèche area. All
the girls were wondering what was going to happen. Then the nurse
came and talked to us about our changes in our bodies. After the
long talk, everyone got to do their own things. Some people played
basketball, others went swimming and some were just playing football
until their parents came.
I really had a great time there with my friends getting to bring
whatever we want, then after an exciting Friday and Saturday I went
home and slept, because I didn't have enough sleep at the camp.
Brenda Vitisya
'First
we came to school with our bags and had our lessons as normal School.
At 4 o'clock, we started to change into our home clothes and we
chose our tents.
We went out to play football about 7 o'clock in the evening after
which we wore our sweaters and went for dinner. For dinner, we had
potatoes and hot dogs. For Breakfast we had eggs, sausages, bread
and cocoa.
Before
we went to swim we learnt about human changes as they grow.
Finally, after swimming our parents came to pick us up.' Olle
'The
camp was held on 2nd March 2007. We came in school uniform and learned
as usual. At 3.30 p.m. we went to the library and afterwards to
the field some people played football and others watched. Later
we were told to go and change into home clothes and set up our tents.
We started putting our sleeping bags. Romana and I put balloons
into Mr. Atongas and Mrs. Odhiambo's tents. At night we had a funny
fashion show after having our dinner.
The
next day I woke up at 5.00 a.m to go and shower. We had breakfast,
played a little then Mrs. Odhiambo called the girls to have a girl
talk and the boys went with Mr. Atonga to have their own talk. Afterwards,
we went swimming. We had our lunch and after some people went back
to swimming. At 4.00 p.m. we went back home.
My
Opinion
I liked the camp because it was fun and educational. We learned
a lot from the talk' Lydia
Music
On the Musical scene, this has been an exciting term. Apart from
the time tabled Music lessons, various children have continued to
have their instrumental lessons from an array of 7 choices. It is
in this respect that we shall be having intensive training from
2nd-4th April 2007 for the 13 children registered for the ABRSM
Examinations coming up in June. The choir took part in the Braeburn
Music Festival. They presented a choral piece based on an African
arrangement titled Teena and an ensemble Malaika by Fadhili Williams.
They also took part in the wind in the willows Concert held in honour
of celebrating the 100th Birthday celebration of Nairobi Arboretum.
They performed the song Magildi Magilda.
Next
term the department is organizing a tea time concert where most
of the 93 children taking instruments will perform to the parents.

scouts
The scouts have kept busy as well. The membership has now grown
to over 60 children. Some of the scouts were able to take part in
a 2 nights' camp in school which culminated with a colourful ceremony
where 15 members were invested.
Sports'
wise, this has been a fruitful term for us. Our children have set
and maintained a good spirit of sportsmanship across the board.
I wish to thank moms and dads who have turned up faithfully to cheer
and support the teams. Your presence goes a long way in boosting
the children's morale.
We are already gearing up for next term's Rugby and Netball sessions.
Do take note that we shall be hosting Inter Schools Netball and
Football tournaments next term.
Below
are comments on various matches and tournaments that have taken
place in the term.
Rusinga
Basketball U12 Tournament
'The
Rusinga tournament was fun even though we lost in some of the matches.
The people in our team were Bryan M, Stelio, Victor Lionel, Moses,
Andrew and Leon. I think Rusinga won the tournament.' Olle Lyung.
Hillcrest Tournament
'At
the hillcrest tournament the schools that participated were Braeburn,
Hillcrest, Braeside, Peponi, Greensteds, Pembroke, Banda and Kenton.
Braeside was in the same group as Pembroke, Braeburn and Hillcrest.
In the group Braeside became number 2 with 5 points. 'Fathullah
Ibisomi
Braeside
vs. Nairobi Academy
'We
won in this enjoyable match. I enjoyed this match because it was
very competitive and fast. I played in both the 1st and 2nd half.
I got very tired in the 2nd half.
We won 1:0 in the second extra time and we really celebrated.' Stelio
Florencio
U11
Hockey vs. Premier (finals in the league)
'The
finals were the toughest and the first we had lost throughout the
season. Our match was against Premier Academy. They scored two goals
while we scored one later on in the game. The score was 2:1. Even
though we lost, our teachers were very proud of us for doing our
best. But next year when I am in the U11 team I will have a second
chance to win.' Mwai Nyamu
U
11 Girls football tournament at Braeburn
'It
was held on Tuesday, 27th March 2007. Altogether, we played four
matches against Banda, Peponi, Braeburn and Kenton. Our first match
was against Banda. It was a big challenge to us. They had lots of
skills but so did we. We emerged the winners. The score was 2:0-thanks
to Brenda our scorer.
The
second match was against Peponi. It was a little hard to score.
I fell down a number of times. The scores were satisfying and were
3:2. I scored a goal and Brenda scored 2. We were given a 10minute
break so we could gain energy for the next match.
The
third match was the easiest. They had a couple of chances to score
but our defender, Muthoni wouldn't let it happen. None of us scored,
so I was nil nil for both of us.
The
last match would now determine weather we were the winners. We were
playing against Kenton and by watching them play with other schools
it seemed easy to beat them. Unfortunately we were wrong
..they
were tough. But I guess it is because most of us were exhausted.
Our coaches were very helpful and encouraging to us. The score was
2:0.After the last match the results were announced and we ranked
a strong 2nd.We were so happy with the results but next time we
will try harder.' Cindy

Hillcrest tournament
The boys had a good day out and only lost one match of the four
games played. The team emerged fourth out of 9 schools. Well done!
The boys held an unbeaten run in all their matches-an exceptional
performance! Both boys and girls teams have matured remarkably in
their play.

Under
11 Hockey League
We
had a fantastic season, probably the best in hockey with both the
U11 girls and boys teams trouncing their opponents with impressive
wins.
Both
teams were unbeaten in all the preliminary matches. The girl's team
lost narrowly in the semi-finals to Waldorf. The boy's team won
Nairobi Academy 1:0 in the semi-finals after 2 extra times in probably
the toughest match of the season. It was a last minute goal, quite
unbelievable.
Later the boy's team lost painfully 2:1 to Premier Academy in the
finals.
We
are proud of you Under 11's!

Our
Under 7 development side played very well and was sensational in
all their League Round Robin matches. They managed to come 3rd position
out of nine schools after a tough 3rd and 4th plays of match. Kudos
boys!
