PROSPECTUS

PARENT-TEACHER PARTNERSHIP

Braeburn High emphasises the importance of close communication between the teacher, parent or guardian, and pupil. This is accomplished in a variety of ways.

The academic progress of pupils is constantly monitored. There is a progress report and a parents' meeting every term for each pupils. All parents or guardians are encouraged to attend and pupils may accompany them. The homework diary provides a record of assignments set. Parents or guardians are asked to read and sign this each week and the Form tutor checks the diary every Monday. A calendar of events is published at the beginning of each term and a half-termly newsletter keeps parents informed of achievements and activities. We have on open-door policy which means parents or guardians are welcome to contact the school at any time if they have a concern or wish to talk about specific issues.

THE PASTORAL SYSTEM

Braeburn High prides itself on providing a friendly and caring environment for our pupils. Pupils can turn to any member of staff if they have a problem or concern. There are systems in place allowing the school to keep a close eye on each pupil's development and the Form Tutor is in contact with his or her class every day and monitors progress.

We strongly believe that positive attitudes create the best discipline. When pupils feel they are respected, they will tend to respect others. At Braeburn High School we create a positive, enabling environment. Pupils are praised for their achievements in any field academic, sporting or behavioural. A merit system is in place and our annual Presentation Evening allows parents and pupils to celebrate achievements.

If a pupil creates problems of any nature, the school will try to deal with them in a constructive way. Discussion and correction will be used wherever possible, rather than censure and punishment. If an issue does have to be taken further, parents or guardians will always be included in the discussion. However, if a pupil does transgress in a serious manner, he or she will be dealt with firmly to ensure maintenance of good discipline.
