FAYE'S DIARY

17 May - 15 June 2013

Faye's DiaryToday, Friday 17 May 2013, is a watershed day for me personally.  Today, I am offically no longer a “Braeburn Mum”.  I’m still a Braeburn employee (lest anyone gets hopeful!), but after 15 amazing years, my youngest daughter, Shannon, has now completed her last exam, and has officially left school.  What a journey it has been.  I still remember my older daughter, Paige, putting on her little blue dress (the uniform in those days) for her first day at “Braeburned” (as she called it).  How scary that day was for all of us, and now it just doesn’t seem that long ago.  Paige is now in her second year of university and doing very well with her studies.  And today, Shannon was officially signed out of boarding at BGE.  We’ll be back for Graduation Day of course, but it is a funny feeling.  And so for our family, Braeburn has done it’s job, but of course it will always be part of our lives.  No doubt Shannon will be back on the Braeburn stage messing around in the pantomime, and you’ll all be able to yell at her “Hiya Buttons!” once more.
But before I drown in my own nostalgia, let’s look ever forward to all the good things that are coming up.  I’m going to be away for a couple of weeks, so this could be a bit of a bumper issue.  Diaries at the ready!!

Friday 17 May
Braeburn Kisumu
5pm

Tonight is Movie Night in Kisumu and you’ve got some great movies to look forward to.  “Rise of the Guardians” is an animation about our childhood heroes – Father Christmas, the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny, and how they need to save the children’s belief in them.  And then there is a great family movie: “Parental Guidance” with Bette Midler and Billy Crystal.  I loved both movies, so you’ve got a hard choice to make.  Get your popcorn popping and have a wonderful family evening.

I know all the Braeburn High School cast, with Miss Jago, has been working hard and the students have been involved in every aspect of this original production, including music, lyrics, background research for the storyline, sets, props and costumes.  Based on the true story of the 1976 student uprising in Soweto, this production is sure to give an insight into events that have shaped our world today.

It’s Graduation Day!  Parents of Year 13 and Year 11 are cordially invited to share this momentous day in our children’s lives.  Contact Stella for more details.  See you there!  Sob!!

There’s loads more going on, with productions galore at Braeside, Braeburn Imani, Braeburn Mombasa, Braeburn Nanyuki and Braeburn Kisumu, but I think I have probably given you enough to think about for now.  Braeburn Players’ will also be presenting their annual offering on 21 and 22 June, but more on all of that after half term.

Speaking of productions, I am starting a new relationship with photobooks!  As a sample, we have a photobook of the Braeburn School production, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”.  If you would like to view the “flipping” book”, please go to the Braeburn School website, and if you like it and want it, you can buy it online directly from PerfectPics (You can also preview the flipping book by clicking here).  Your friends and relatives around the world can view, order and buy too!  I’m hoping this is going to be something we can do with lots of different events, productions and happenings within all our schools, so even if you aren’t a Braeburn School parent, please have a look and let me know what you think of the idea.

Don’t forget the art exhibition in the Braeburn Coffee Shop, the Rhino Charge calendars on sale (chat to Debs), the Book Exchange in main Admin Block foyer, and all the classes happening in the Braeburn Fitness Centre.  In addition to all the sports and school activities, I’m sure you are all going to be kept super busy whilst I am away.  Have a happy couple of weeks and a lovely half term.

Best wishes
