And then there was Braeburn in Nanyuki! In December 2007 the parents and proprietors of the former Podo Preparatory School in Nanyuki approached the management of Braeburn Schools Limited seeking to enter into a partnership for the development of a Braeburn School in Nanyuki Town. The results…well, Braeburn management were all very excited at the prospect and immediately put in place the mechanisms for the establishment of the 10th Braeburn School! Braeburn Nanyuki International School commenced its operations in January 2008 and is located in the serene and beautiful town of Nanyuki. Dwarfed, as it is sandwiched between the magical, formidable presence of Mt. Kenya on the one hand and the plush, green heights of the Aberdare Ranges on the other, Nanyuki offers a remarkably refreshing environment, its open spaces unspoiled by the clutter and pollution that are more characteristic of larger towns and cities. The school is at present located on a charming leased property down the Cottage Hospital road and is in part of the larger Cape Chestnut farm.
To weave an international quality education coupled with the merits of the National Curriculum of England and Wales into the fabric of a caring community in such an awesome upcountry setting is a rewarding experience indeed for the staff at the school. At Braeburn Nanyuki the atmosphere is a happy one, a welcoming one and a truly caring one as parents, guardians and staff all contribute each day, and in so many ways, to making learning a journey of discovery through first hand experience.
And as we aim to maintain the special community touch whose core values of trust, honesty, integrity, support, cooperation and fraternity have a special place in our hearts we also want to mould and help in the evolution of the quaint school of the yester years into an academic institution that can be rightfully at par with any school of good repute in the country and elsewhere. Our firm commitment is to offer the merits of a well structured British education that is both rigorous as it is broad based.
Plans are at an advanced stage to relocate the school to its own larger, purposefully designated grounds. In time, this will bring the characteristically well designed Braeburn School buildings and facilities to compliment the on-going drive to enhance our school resources. Development and curriculum planning commenced in January 2008 and already great in-roads have been made in terms of appropriate staff recruitment and rationalisation, planning for the proper acquisition and utilisation of appropriate teaching/learning resources as well as the putting in place of sound educational management practices and systems. Further, as of January 2009 our school transport coverage extends to both Nyeri and Meru towns so as to bring and make accessible the benefits of an international education to the residents. We also hope, in the not too distant future, to establish a boarding house offering both full and weekly boarding facilities for the more senior pupils.
We believe that with the continued, unwavering support of parents and guardians that we have so far received as well as the sustained spirit of teamwork, dedication and hard work of all the staff the future can only be very bright indeed!
So if you are ever in these parts for a visit, are thinking of relocating to this beautiful, calm part of the country or just want to be part of a really vibrant and ambitious school then you can look forward to a very warm, traditional Braeburn welcome at the Braeburn Nanyuki International School! With our very best regards and wishes, Eva Kioko Headteacher, Braeburn Nanyuki International School
