Page 1 of 5 About Braeburn School SCHOOL STRUCTURE The school is run by a headteacher and two deputies, one academic, one pastoral. Each yeargroup is headed by a co-ordinator. There are also subject co-ordinators. Teachers are required to be on duty the week before term starts, as many teacher insets and meetings happen during this week. New teachers are advised on curriculum matters directly by their yeargroup co-ordinator. The academic year is split into three terms of 14, 12 and 10 weeks, divided by the Christmas holidays (4 weeks), Easter holidays (4 weeks) and the summer holiday (8/9 weeks). Half term is 10 days in the first term, three days added to a weekend in the second term and two days added to a weekend in the third term (see individual school calendars for exact dates). School hours are from 7.45 am to 4.15 pm weekdays, athough some teachers may be required for extra-curricular activities / clubs / sports late on weekdays and on some weekends. The school day is divided into 30-minute lessons, starting at 8.10 am and ending at 3.30 pm, with a 15-minute break in the morning and a 55-minute break at lunchtime. Paying and non-paying extra-curricular activities are held each day from 3.45pm to 4.45pm. There is no school on Saturdays or Sundays. Teachers are required to assist with extra-curricular activities / teams for two terms out of the three. Many teachers choose to do more, however, as these activities are very enjoyable. There is a teacher's staff room with individual pigeonholes for teacher information and where teachers can spend their free time. Teachers have access to the school computers situated in the ICT suites and the library when these are not being used by the children for lessons / study periods. Teachers' lunches are provided during term time, and as such lunch can be taken in the main school dining room. There is also a paying coffee shop which provides a simple menu and snacks. For sports, music and language (French) teachers, there are subject-specific offices for teachers' use.
