Page 1 of 8 Admission Policy
All children are given equal opportunity for admission in respect of gender, race and religion. For pupils joining from any other international school in East Africa, a letter of clearance from the school they are leaving is a prerequisite to their being accepted in any Braeburn Group School. A copy of the pupil’s birth certificate or passport and the most recent school report are also required. All new pupils from Year 1 upwards are screened on arrival in order to ensure that they are being placed in the correct year group. However, as much as possible we try to ensure that they are with pupils of their own age.
Early Years children (Playgroup, Nursery and Reception) are screened gradually over a period of time (but usually within the first term) as teachers need to know what the children are able to do. If there is a cause for concern, the parents are advised and an assessment made. For children entering the Early Years Unit, the following policy applies: Playgoup children must be 2 years old by the 30th September in order to move up to Nursery after one year. Children who turn 2 after 30th September and join the school in January must do 5 terms in the Playgroup and four terms if they join in April. Playgroup children may be part-time or full-time and fees will be charged accordingly. Nursery children should be 3 years old by 30th September. Children who turn 3 after 30th September may not be eligible to join the Nursery. Similarly, only children who turn 4 before 30th September will be eligible to join Reception. Fees Parents are invoiced at the beginning of each term and an annual fee structure is published at the end of each academic year. The fees structure is always available on request at the school office. For prospective parents, the fees list is in the pocket of the school prospectus. When a new child begins there is a registration fee, an admission fee, and a refundable deposit. Transport is charged separately and is not included in the tuition fee. Fees are payable by the date given on the invoice which is normally within the first week of term. There is a sibling discount of 10% for a second child, 15% for a third child and 17.5% for any other siblings. Boarding Weekly boarding is available from Monday to Thursday night. Boarders go home after school on Friday and should be brought back on Monday morning. Transport to and from the boarding house and all meals, including school lunch, break and tea, are included in the boarding fee. There are two houses, a boys’ and a girls’ with a recreation area in between. Appointments for viewing or talking to the boarding master or mistress should be made through the school office.
